used to be zillions of Ladas driving around Canada in the 80's, We like a cheap car eh. I’ve been told that the Canadian market Ladas were of a considerably higher built quality than their soviet domestic market counterparts (SDM as Fook!). And as such, cars we considered throwaway beaters here were looked at with diferent eyes by the Russians, and most of them made their way back home as parts or running examples. I’ve driven a Niva, and will see one at the wrecker every few years. I’ve never seen a sedan at the junkyard, And I’ve found an 81 Jet Electrica at same wrecker. (incidentally owned by the Russian steel giant Evraz)

Huh I never thought about Ladas in Canada, my dad is from Montana, never seen one up north. It would be fun to have one, but I would probably get a 2CV if I was going for a totally odd car to add to the collection, I know of at least two French car mechanics in SF. Although a Niva would be cool.

can’t really say zillons, since they sold about 12000 ladas per year in canada from 79 to 98.

i honestly can’t remember the last time i saw a Lada sedan. must be in the mid 90s. You still see a Niva once in a while, but are very rare these days.
